Job Description – Digital Developer 2026
We are looking for a multi-faceted, forward-thinking individual to assist in the continued development of our online digital yearbook.
We are not recreating the print yearbook online, rather we are inventing a student-created and engaged record of the ongoing Trent experience. The ideal candidate will be someone who not only how to make an attractive and functional website, but understands the ever-changing online world and is able to help develop a multi-site environment that will stand the test of time.
This unique web development position does not require extensive programming or coding skills. However, understanding of FUNCTIONAL design principles, WordPress CMS, digital archiving, data management, and social media management are required. Applicable programming and/or coding skills will be considered an asset (html, css, php, xml).
The successful candidate will help create an attractive, well designed, front-end magazine/information style website site that features posts contributed by yearbook staff and students, managed by a team. This will be paired with a secondary site that houses our extensive archive of digital artifacts providing a searchable online archive of past yearbook images and content, managed by a dedicated staff member.
Once hired, the successful candidate will work closely with and answer to the yearbook Advisor. Together they will create a manageable work plan for the year. Most of the work can be done remotely, but in-person meetings may be required occasionally. Communication is via email, phone, text, video conferencing and social media platforms.
All Trent Annual staff are occasionally required to participate in book tables during on-campus events to promote the yearbook to the Trent University community. This may include heavy lifting of boxes. However, accessibility accommodations are available upon request.
The digital developer position is 40 hours/month with a monthly salary at a $20.60 hourly rate.
The position is open only to current Trent students living in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. (Access to a vehicle not required, but presence on campus may be required on some occasions.)
We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. Applicants need to be a current Trent university student. You DO NOT have to be TWSP eligible.
When applying: Please submit a resume and cover letter and design portfolio. In your cover letter, include a list of three social and/or information websites that you think work well. Explain in ONE SHORT SENTENCE OR POINT FORM for each why you think it is attractive, presents information well, and reaches users effectively.
PLEASE NOTE: Cover letters that are obviously LLM generated without user edits will be rejected. This position requires a deep understanding of the current digital environment. If you don’t understand how to use AI, it will show!
